McIntyre Vineyards has been producing grapes for other well known wineries for years but the first limited McIntyre wines debuted with the 2005 vintage. The McIntyre Estate Vineyard lies in the middle of the 12-mile long stretch of benchland above the Salinas River known as the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA has rapidly become a legend in the wine world, producing some of the most highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the market today. As iconic as the AVA itself, winegrower Steve McIntyre farms this ancient alluvial soil to grow some of the finest grapes in the Highlands. McIntyre estate was among the first properties in the Santa Lucia Highlands to be SIP Certified (Sustainability In Practice).
The new, 1,200 square foot tasting room is contemporary and warm. The walls are composed of Gabion baskets filled with rocks, giving the space a natural, earthy feel. While there are a few bistro tables with stools, most customers will want to find a place at the long wine bar that can accommodate up to 30 tasters. In addition to wine, the McIntyre tasting room will also sell specialized glassware, wine-related art, and other wine paraphernalia.
